Bursa Malaysia Recognised Among ASEAN’s Top 50 and Malaysia’s Top Five Public Listed Companies

Kuala Lumpur – Bursa Malaysia Bhd has been named one of the top 50 ASEAN Public Listed Companies (PLCs) and secured a place among Malaysia’s top five PLCs at the ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards held on Thursday evening. The recognition underscores Bursa Malaysia’s role as a leading exchange committed to governance excellence in the region.

In an official statement, Datuk Fad’l Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, emphasised that the award reflects the organisation’s ongoing dedication to strengthening governance practices. “Strong corporate governance is the bedrock of a resilient and trusted capital market. Bursa Malaysia actively champions governance excellence — both within the exchange, and across our ecosystem — as a key foundation for investor confidence and sustainable economic growth,” he said.

The ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards are organised by the Minority Shareholders Watch Group, Malaysia’s domestic ranking body. Winners are selected based on the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) Regional Assessment 2024, a benchmark recognised for its rigour and alignment with international standards.

Officiated by Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, the awards highlighted PLCs across ASEAN that demonstrate exceptional performance in governance, transparency, and accountability. The event also reinforced the region’s collective ambition to strengthen investor trust and foster sustainable market growth.

The ACGS, developed in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, is conducted biennially under the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum. It provides a framework to assess and elevate corporate governance across six participating ASEAN countries, focusing on board effectiveness, disclosure practices, and accountability.

By being listed among the top-performing PLCs, Bursa Malaysia joins an exclusive group of corporates setting the benchmark for governance leadership in ASEAN. This recognition not only enhances its reputation as a trusted exchange but also highlights Malaysia’s standing in advancing corporate governance standards regionally.

With this accolade, Bursa Malaysia strengthens its positioning as a driver of resilience and growth in the capital markets, further affirming its role in supporting investor confidence and sustainable development across ASEAN.
