Semarang Wins First Place at GM-DTGI Award 2025 for Digital Transformation

Yogyakarta — The City Government of Semarang has once again achieved national recognition by winning first place at the Gadjah Mada Digital Transformation Governance Index (GM-DTGI) Award 2025. This award places Semarang at the top of the regency/city category across Indonesia, marking its second consecutive victory after also winning in 2024. The achievement highlights the city’s consistency in advancing digital governance and its role as a benchmark for other regions.

The award was presented by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, to Soenarto, Head of the Semarang City Office of Communication, Informatics, Statistics, and Encryption, who represented Mayor Agustina Wilujeng. The ceremony was held at the Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, as part of the GM-DTGI National Seminar 2025. The event gathered policymakers, academics, and digital governance experts to discuss the future of public sector innovation in Indonesia.

This recognition reflects Semarang’s strong commitment to digital transformation, particularly in public service delivery. Over the past few years, the city has implemented a wide range of digital systems, from e-government platforms to integrated citizen service applications. These initiatives have streamlined bureaucracy, improved transparency, and made it easier for residents to access essential services. As a result, Semarang has become a national reference point for technology-driven governance.

Mayor Agustina Wilujeng emphasized that the award is not only a recognition but also a motivation to further strengthen digital innovation that directly benefits citizens. She noted that the city’s digital transformation strategy is designed to ensure inclusivity, enabling all segments of society to access services efficiently. By prioritizing user-friendly platforms and continuous innovation, Semarang aims to reduce inequality in access to public services.

The GM-DTGI Award itself is an initiative by Universitas Gadjah Mada to measure and encourage digital transformation in local governments across Indonesia. The index evaluates governance performance based on criteria such as transparency, efficiency, citizen engagement, and technological integration. Winning the award for two consecutive years demonstrates that Semarang has not only met but exceeded these standards, setting an example for other municipalities.

Looking ahead, Semarang plans to expand its digital ecosystem by integrating artificial intelligence and data-driven decision-making into public administration. The city also intends to strengthen cybersecurity measures to protect citizen data and ensure trust in digital platforms. With these forward-looking strategies, Semarang is positioning itself as a pioneer of smart governance in Indonesia, showing how local leadership can drive modernization and resilience in the digital era.
